Special Day Classes 特殊日間課程

Garfield provides supportive classes for children with mild to moderate autism. Students enrolled in Special Day and their families are an essential part of the Garfield community.

Special Day students are assigned for a majority of the school day to a separate class and are grouped by instructional need into two, multi-grade classrooms: one serving grades K-2, and one serving children in grades 3-5.

This setting provides academic enrichment to students with more intensive needs who cannot meaningfully benefit from instruction in a general education setting.

Special Day Class teachers and paraprofessionals work collaboratively with general education classroom teachers and the IEP team to plan services and provide classroom instruction.

The primary focus of instruction in Special Day Classes at Garfield is the Common Core academic standards accommodated and/or modified with specialized instructional strategies to meet individual student needs.
